Who else has dropped $50+ on junk for Easter baskets that is just going to get thrown away after 24 hours?
We are literally throwing our money in the trash, just so we can fill our kids’ baskets with nonsense!
I try to avoid these things:
Slime. Usually good for one use, and 100% leaves the mother frustrated during clean up!
Too much candy that will just get thrown away. We stick with a hollow, chocolate Easter bunny and some jellybeans.
ANOTHER stuffed animal. Unless your child truly enjoys getting another stuffed animal (which my youngest does), skip this unnecessary filler.
Cheap plastic toys that will break in 7 seconds.
Those “grow” toys that you stick in water and they get huge and then you throw them away and pretend it was fun.
So let’s get into what you SHOULD put in the Easter basket, practical stuff that is FUN and USEFUL! We go for one “bigger” item and then a couple smaller, less expensive fillers plus candy.
- Spring Jacket
- Flip flops
- Beach towel
- Ball, or outside toys
- Sand/beach toys
- A book
- Playdoh (make homemade playdoh and stick inside Easter eggs)
- Art supplies
- Mini LEGO set or polybag
- Seeds to plant
- Snacks such as goldfish, fruit snacks, sunflower seeds, beef jerky, etc..
- Movie tickets
- Nail polish/makeup
- Hotwheels/Matchbox cars
- Dollar Store puzzles (surprisingly, they are well worth $1)
- Play kitchen items such as measuring spoons, cute dishes, etc..
